The Lahore School of Economics Association of Debaters (LSEAD) Debate 09 concluded with Government College and University Lahore lifting the championship trophy having successfully taken down the motion presented by The Agha Khan University. Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhry, the Rector Lahore School of Economics gave away the prizes to the winners.

3rd Annual Lahore School Sports Prize Distribution, 09


The Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony for the sports was held on 27th December, 09 in the Garden Café. The student were given away trophies and medals for the outstanding achievements in sports during the year 2009. The award for best sportsman of the year , best tennis player, best footballer and best cricketer, best table tennis player best player basketball were given to Waqas Mir, Yasir Hassan, Arooj Zawar, Osama Sher, Ali Shah and Umair Magoon. Trophies for Intra Lahore School Championship were given away to the teams.

Economic Recession

Aneeq Khawar, the Chief Operating Officer at Saudi Pak Commercial Bank visited Lahore School of Economics and gave a presentation to the MBA / MSc (Economics) students. Aneeq Khawar covered current economic recession with special emphasies on global economic slowdown, meltdown of financial sector and massive liquidity crunch. Aneed Khawar also shared his personal professional experiences and the expectations of the corporate sector from fresh graduates.

The Lahore School Debate 2009

The Lahore School of Economics Association of Debaters (LSEAD) is holding the Lahore School inter-varsity debates 09 from January 23 to 27, 2009. So far 42 teams have confirmed their participation in this grand debating event.


In order to provide an unparalleled platform for debate, the Lahore School will be following the all Asians format of debates which employs the 3 on 3 debating format with reply speeches. Each institution can register up to two teams. The Lahore School Debate will consist of 6 preliminary rounds (2 closed and one custom round titled the free speech round) followed by the knockout stages consisting of the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the grand final.

Her Imperfect Prayer Cycle

The Lahore School of Economics Dramatic and Entertainment Society is performing a mime “Her Imperfect Prayer Cycle” – previously performed at Rafi Peer Youth Performance Art in the Main Café on Jan 21-22, 2009.

Directed by Sheryar Latif (BBA), this mime is a symbolic narration of a three dimensional classic story of a prostitute - faith, love and death. The mime uncovers the price a body pays for a material yet incomplete soul.

The play is written by Sidra Zia Butt, performance is by Mishelle Syed and narration by Amal Khurram.

Agricultural Growth in Irrigated Punjab: Some Issues and Policies

Abstract
This paper focuses on some of the major policy issues for accelerating a sustainable and equitable agricultural growth process in Punjab in the next five to ten years. There are numerous policy issues given the multiple and competing interests of the many stakeholders. The policy issues analysed in this paper are limited to the productivity and quality of land and water resources; production and distribution of seeds; transfer and adoption of productivity-enhancing and profitable technology that protects the environment and quality of the resource base; and market structures (supply chains) and government regulations for markets of fruits and vegetables and livestock and products. Based on the analysis, the paper concludes with several suggestions for further research and changes in public policy.
